Delft Skies & Tangerine Dreams

At the beginning of the year, a group of wedding vendors came together to create the most amazing styled shoot, inspired by the Pantone colour of 2020, True Blue.

We were so blown away by the magic that they created and knew it would be a perfect shoot to share with our readers… who knew, the 2020 Pantone might not have even be used by weddings in 2020!

Now that weddings are “back”, we thought it might be the perfect time to inspire 2020 brides that are wanting to go ahead with an elopement or intimate celebration in 2020. Why not use True Blue as an inspiration for your day, a perfect way to pay tribute to 2020 and truly remember what a year it was!

So, get ready to be inspired!

For this shoot, we experimented with a modern European feel with elements of the 2020 Pantone colour of the year, True Blue. Blue flowers mid-South African Summer can be a challenge so as a nod to Wilma’s Dutch roots we chose to bring our true blue elements through Delftware and combine it with the most beautiful contrasting tones of peach to coral/red; softening the look and giving it a home feel by including exquisite fresh South African summer wild grass elements of various textures and sizes. Who would have thought that a Modern European starting point would combine so deliciously with responsibly foraged African wild grass elements? This is one of the true joys of collaborating with fellow professionals and experimenting together- discovering new ways to combine contrasting concepts and elements, and creating something entirely new through the process.

I was sent the mood boards with the colour palettes by Wilma and I fell in LOVE with this colour combo so I was VERY inspired to do something a little different… the rounded edges, the shapes and the direct print and foiling onto the coloured boards… I also wanted to ensure I used a few of the colours together in one piece.

The two dresses we chose for the shoot were the Chicago and the Darling dresses from our Luxe ‘Capri’ Collection.
The Darling is an on-trend sophisticated sparkle dress with the most exquisite spider sparkle Guipure lace. This dress is both sexy and fun, with that definite ‘wow’ factor that most brides are after. The fact that this dress is non-traditional is also very appealing to the modern bride or even the ‘anti-bride’.

The Chicago is a fully hand-beaded lace with a geometric pattern, which is also wonderful for the bride who wants to stand out from the rest. The plunge adds that hint of sexy. We love the lace and the fit of this dress. It can be paired with a variety of different over-skirts or even a cape.

We thought these two dresses would be perfect for this shoot.

Seeing the flowers and the table layouts is always so inspiring, especially when I feel I have nailed the brief!! Being given a good mood board and the correct colours help me really understand the concept behind the shoot and helps me design something special, attractive and helps to showcase the linen and the table décor & flowers. Of course, having a magician photographer (like Wilma) goes such a long to making my stationery look extra special

I started with the reference that was sent by Carolyn from Adore Weddings and the inspo pics for the cake and then, I had some fun. I wanted to create an ombre effect with the two colours and also have a very rough torn fondant look.
When you see everyone’s interpretation of the reference and ideas that have been thrown around theres something magical about it! This shoot will always be sentimental to me, as it was my last styled shoot for Cakelab… such a bittersweet moment!

It was amazing watching the different elements come together, all the ladies working together to make the shoot memorable, and the fun we had as we are all so passionate about the wedding industry!
